5:00 pm Jorge informs me he might hang out with his friends PG and Paco this evening.
10:00 pm PG calls Jorge. During this call, Jorge switched from “husband voice” to “party voice” (which involves frequent use of the word wey) They decide to hang out at our house.
10:30 pm Paco and Pege arrive at our house. Dogs flip out. I stay upstairs to watch Hoarders and catch up on some blogs.
10:45 pm I hear unrecognizable voices from outside. Disregard and continue in sloth-like state upstairs.
11:10 pm I send Jorge a text message asking him to make me a Caesar salad.
11:25 pm Jorge brings me my Caesar salad (awesome) and informs me that there are 5 people downstairs, including a girl he used to go to middle school with, a friend of his brother, and the owner of a large local gym.
12:00 am I hear loud cell phone conversations of our guests giving directions to our house. Sense of impending doom.
12:28 am Things have gone suspiciously quiet.
12:31 am Loud music and yelling commence. More phone calls.
12:34 am Cries of pain, followed by laughter and repeated use of the word wey.
12:36 am Chanting?
12:51 am Guy screams directions to my house while standing in my stairwell. Car alarm goes off. Pleasant.
12:55 am Noise has escalated. I text Jorge to remind him that we have neighbors and it’s a weekday.
12:58 am Oh my gosh, how many people are at my house?
1:01 am I can hear Spanish pronunciation and grammar lessons.
1:04 am I call Jorge to tell them to quiet down. I feel like an old lady, but the neighbors will hate me! (except the Cuban guy across the street. He’s pretty cool about noise.) Time for bed. Updates in the morning!
Update (Friday afternoon… update fail.): After iniciating soundproofing (aka air conditioning unit), I slept like a baby for the rest of the night. Jorge came upstairs to sleep at 4:00 am (this is surprisingly early here in Cancun). I am later informed that there were 17 people at our house Wednesday night.
Does this happen in the States, too?
LOVE this post! Love the play-by-play and how your wall between you and the action is always there. I also like how you and Jorge text each other message when you’re in the same house but I guess that’s efficient and easier than screaming.
Thanks! I texted because I was in my PJs and was embarrassed to venture downstairs.
LOL!!! Sounds like a fun night!
That definitely doesn’t happen at our house now that we have a toddler! If you flush the toilet at our house after 8 pm I might beat the crap out of you!
HAHAHA especially if there are toys in the toilet, right?
you sound alot more cool and collected than i would have been, lol!
Hi Christina! Doesn’t bother me so much for some reason, although I do worry about the neighbors.
Hahah! You’re such a nice wife. I would have evil glared and sent many more texts because it was a weekday. At least he didnt’ ask you to come down there.
Have fun at your bachelorette party, can’t wait to hear about it!
I AM a nice wife! He doesn’t know how good he has it haha
Thanks, I’ll be sure to post about the bachelorette party 🙂
And you stayed upstairs ?? !!!! I can never figure out why Mexican people play music very loud LATE at night. When I stay at my friend’s house (in Cancun), the neighbor’s will blast their music till the wee hours. Along with the dogs barking, who can sleep 🙂
I was “working” and in my PJs haha
To be fair, the music was only on briefly before Jorge had them turn it off. The yelling never seemed to stop, though…
LOVE this play by play! Sounds like a Mexican style frat party – at least you didn’t go down for breakfast the next morning to see people still up and partying!
You handled that much better than I would have in that same situation. Of course now it would never happen, because me and Hubby are practically senior citizens with 4 kiddies. Parties after 8pm just ain’t gonna happen. 😛
There are two things that you did that I adore:
1. You stayed upstairs and watched “Hoarders.” Awesome.
2. You text-ordered a Caesar salad from the same house and it was delivered to you.
Amazing! I don’t think I even have 17 friends to invite over! 🙂 I recently called the cops complaining about neighbors being too loud and felt like the oldest woman ever.
This makes me crabby all over again – flashbacks of the night Steve had a bachelor party at our house… difference was it was a weekend and I knew it was coming… but DAMN, sometimes it’s just plain rude.
Glad you seem to be dealing with it well… I didn’t have the AC unit to help me sleep, so I was awake all of the night!
Ugh. That would annoy me. Sounds like a typical day here in River Falls though.
Husband voice to “party voice”!! Love it! I know exactly what you mean because my husband does the same thing (wey and all)! 😉
I thought I commented, LOL.
This really does sound fun.
As dorky as it sounds, my guy and his friends play cards… Magic:The Gathering. They always play at my house two nights a week and even though I am just a flight up, I can still hear them talking and the music going (with loud drums and guitars of course). I just turn on a fan and I am usually out like a champ. Our neighbors are our Bff’s so they never complain about the noise.
Hahahaha. Your hubby’s a party monster. 😀 And, awwww, how sweet that he brought you up a ceasar salad while his friends were there. Seriously, how many men do that when their friends are around? You’ve got a good one, girl. 😉
We’re scheduled to fly into Cancun this coming Wednesday, August 10th, and we just found out rain and thunderstorms are expected for the week we will be there. Yuck. What’s it like in Cancun with weather like that? Does it rain all day or just some and then clear up?
