5 Year Anniversary Surprise

9 Feb

Can you still celebrate dating anniversaries once you’re married?

Well, we did it anyway.

On Friday we had our 5 year dating anniversary, and Jorge wanted to take me on a dinner date to a surprise location. I wore my favorite yellow dress because I don’t get many fancy occasions for it.

I was really excited when we got there and I found out we were going to Elefanta, an upscale Indian restaurant at Plaza La Isla. We had a table under a palapa by the lagoon, which was lovely. About halfway through the meal, we felt water misting our feet. The waiter explained it’s their bug repellant spray to protect the legs. Pretty cool.

We’d never had Indian food before, but it was DELICIOUS. We started with potato and cheese naan bread, then had saffron and cheese shrimp and some kind of amazing spiced chicken for the main course.

I didn’t take many pictures because who wants to take pictures on a date? Plus “romantic lighting” isn’t very photo-friendly. You can check out Elefanta’s photo gallery, though. It’s a really, really beautiful restaurant.

All I have for you is a shot of my view of the lagoon:

I love upscale restaurants, hotels, etc, but for some reason I always feel out of place in fancy venues. What if the waiters find out that I’m not rich like the rest of the customers? That we had to save up for months for this dinner? That this is my only (sort of) expensive dress? That we took the city bus to get here? Totally irrational. But I love going anyway 🙂

**Update: By “popular” demand, here’s a picture of my favorite yellow dress:

Sounds like a lovely meal! I like fancy restaurants even though I never go. I feel like a kid playing grownup.

I want to see your yellow dress! 🙂 Congrats on 5 years!! 🙂

Sounds lovely! And I know what you mean, I always feel out of place at fancy venues too. Although I love the idea of under the table bug repellant spray. I wish they would have had that at the restaurants the last time I was in Acapulco. 🙂

Happy 5 year dating anniversary! If you like Indian food try Taste of India in the Parador hotel on Tulum. Amazing food and very reasonable prices

Fancy! I can’t afford that place either, will live vicariously through you, haha! Congrats on five years! (You should try Taste of India, great Indian food and I am sure not nearly as expensive. No leg repellant though).

That sounds sooo good! Except for the bug spray. What if you’re wearing pants…or suede pumps and it ruins them?

It was a very, very light mist. Scared the crap out of us, though.

    Sounds lovely! Congratulations!

I just drink a lot at fancy restaurants so I don’t feel nervous. (And tell my husband…that’s not the right fork!)

Yes you can still celebrate those anniversaries. We do :).

Congratulations! I love Indian food so I can imagine you had a wonderful night.

Congratulations on your anniversary. I hope that you and Jorge have many, many more. I love nice restaurants too; although it is hard to beat PQ’s, Joe’s Inn, and Don Jose’s. Oh yeah, I will always miss having my Monte Cristo at Bennigan’s.

Congratulations on your anniversary! My husband and I don’t even celebrate our marriage anniversary. We consider our first date, the most important date to remember considering its when we fell in love. Who cares if fancy restaurants aren’t your regular thing. You all saved up for something that was special for you, and that’s all that matters. In fact, that’s what makes it even more special!

    Keep the love going strong!

It’s not about being rich(with money), but about enjoying the moment – sounds like a very rich evening to me!
    Felicidades

Congrats to you both .. and never feel out of place. Just stick your nose up in the air and pretend you are wealthy. Never worry what other people think!

I don’t think it’s a “dating anniversary”- it’s a “being together” anniversary! Totally legit to still celebrate that 🙂 I loooove naan bread- my favorite is called peshwari naan and it’s filled with coconut <>

    Love the dress!
