First Trash the Dress Photos!!

23 Mar

My photographer, Monica Lopez (info@monicalopezphoto.com), sent me a few of my Trash the Dress photos today! The location is the beautiful Garrafon Park on Isla Mujeres, who were so generous with us throughout the day.

There will be more sometime next week, but for now I can’t stop looking at these:

I think I might ask Monica to follow me around with a camera everywhere I go from now on, forever. Check out her website here: http://monicalopezphoto.com/

More to come in a few days! Hope everyone has a great weekend.

Trash the Dress Teaser

21 Mar

This Sunday, we had our Trash the Dress photo shoot at Parque Garrafon on Isla Mujeres. There were so many beautiful locations to shoot there, and it was a gorgeous day! Don’t worry: I’ll be sure to do a full post with the professional pictures once I have them, but here are a few of my cell phone pics to keep you entertained in the meanwhile.

My makeup (and a creepy stare, sorry)

Remember the crinoline skirt I bought a few weeks ago? It was to give the dress extra "princess poof" for this shoot.

View from the buffet restaurant. WOW!

**Note: No dresses were harmed in the making of this Trash the Dress shoot.

My Mexico Video (aka “my first and last ever bikini shoot”)

27 Sep

While I was in Oaxaca on the Mexico Today kick-off event last June, I was asked to do an interview talking about Mexico and my city: Cancun. I was a bit nervous as I sat down in front of the camera, but I found that the words came easily to me. Talking about places I love so much was a breeze! The minutes flew by, and before I knew it, the video crew was telling me “Thanks! I think we got it.”

A few weeks later, I got an e-mail saying that Eye Candy would like to do some shots with me here in Cancun. (They call this extra footage “B Roll”… I feel very professional when I say that.) So in August, I spent a weekend hanging out with them in Party Center and on Isla Mujeres. It was a very difficult day swimming in the Caribbean Sea, eating burgers, riding in golf carts and drinking cocktails from coconuts, but somehow I got through it. 😉

This weekend I finally got to see the end result of my “My Mexico” story on Youtube. *drumroll* TA-DA!!!

**Please forgive the horrible face I’m making on the default image… very unfortunate.**

You can also see me and some of my Mexico Today partners in crime in other My Mexico videos on the “MexicoToday” Youtube page. We talk about Mexican beaches, Mexican markets, ecotourism, ancient ruins, and more.

Disclosure:  I am being compensated for my work in creating and managing content as a Community Manager for the Mexico Today Program.  All stories, opinions and passion for all things Mexico shared here are completely my own.

Isla Mujeres Revisited

13 May

This weekend we went to Isla Mujeres yet again. We stopped by Jax restaurant for lunch, then headed off to Playa Norte for the afternoon. We didn’t take as many pictures because we already have so many from our last visit.

We LOVE Jax Bar and Grill… great food, an immense menu, the best drinks and amazing views of the beach. I was so excited because they had a bleu cheese burger!!! I hadn’t had one in years, and it was amazing.

I’m dying to go back already! Stupid desk job…

Playa Norte on Isla Mujeres

8 Feb

Jorge went to Merida this weekend for his mom’s surgery, which went very well! He came back Sunday evening, and since I had Monday off for a Mexican holiday, we decided to go to Isla Mujeres to celebrate our 4 year dating anniversary. (Can we still celebrate that even if we’re married? Well, we did.)

One of my favorite things about going to Isla Mujeres is the ferry ride. Here are some shots…

That's Cancun's hotel zone skyline on the horizon

Isla Mujeres on the horizon

We arrived at the Isla Mujeres port and headed straight for my favorite spot in the entire world… Playa Norte (North Beach).

My view

My favorite part of Playa Norte is the water. There are no waves (I hate waves), and the water is only chest-deep for as far as the eye can see. The sand is powdery, and there are no plants or rocks underfoot. It’s like swimming in a pool, but it’s the ocean!

After a few hours we saw some storm clouds rolling in, and we decided to head back to the ferry.

On the ferry ride back home, we could also see some intense storm clouds headed for Cancun on the horizon. It made for some cool shots.

We were lucky to get back home before the rain started! Today I’m back at the office (no fun) and it’s still raining!

Caribbean Carnaval Cruise in Cancun

23 Jun
Last Saturday, my friend and bridesmaid Viri called me up to tell me that our friend Choco had gotten some discounted passes to go on Cancun’s Caribbean Carnaval. I was PSYCHED. This party boat sets out from Cancun’s Hotel Zone at sunset, and takes you out to Isla Mujeres for a buffet dinner on the beach. The entire time there’s a super cheesy pirate show going on, which was kinda fun! On the boat, there’s also tons of dancing. (Kind of difficult and awkward, but fun nonetheless!)

We set off from Playa Tortugas (Turtle Beach) in the Hotel Zone

While we were on the beach waiting to board, Choco informed us that in order to get his discount, he had to lie and say we were from the city of Tantoyuca, Veracruz. (It was never really explained why we had to lie, but hey, it’s Mexico right?) I think someone had mentioned where the different groups on board were from, because the head pirate would occasionally shout out, “Let’s hear some noise from Tantoyuca!!” This was followed by excited cheers and lots of giggling from our group.

waiting on the beach... I spotted the moon through the palm tree above me. 🙂

Once we got on land at Isla Mujeres, some of our "people" were "captured" by rogue pirates. This was followed by the cheesiest show I've ever seen. (There was some cool dancing and games throughout the night, though.)

Overall it was a lot of cheesy fun with bad drinks and average food… but the sunset and the company were hard to beat.
