Vazquez Sounds

9 Mar

I dunno if these kids have become at all popular in the US yet, but for the last few months the Vazquez Sounds have been taking Mexico by storm. This family of 3 kids became famous with their cover songs on YouTube, and they are really good! (and adorable)

The one thing that bothers me, as my hermosa amiga Jessica from Mexican At Heart pointed out, is that all their cover songs thus far have been English songs… and the lead girl seriously needs to improve her accent. I’m not saying all Mexicans should speak English, but if you want to make a living off of doing cover songs in English… learn English! You can tell she just memorizes the sounds and doesn’t really know what she’s singing.

Accent pickiness aside, they’re really good, especially because they sing a lot of my favorite songs. Check out the Vazquez Sounds:

What do you think? Amazing? Sickeningly cute? Annoying accent? Charming accent?

    Laura,

I do not comment often and this response is not relative to the “current” post – although it being as great as others – only to my availability to respond. Just wanted to express my appreciation of your “gift” for writing and expressing your thoughts. I do not have that gift . . . . but .. . meet you on the dance floor anytime 🙂 Truly, you have your father’s gift of expression and your mother’s gift of wisdom. Miss you and love you much! Hope to see you and Jorge for the wedding.

Thanks Bobbi, that’s the best compliment you could give me! I will definitely be seeing you at the wedding.

I totally love singing along with songs in other languages even though I’m sure I butcher the language. And this girl is doing it a lot better than I do anyway (both the singing and the accent). But maybe she should embrace her culture and her musicality and write some of her own stuff in Spanish. Either way, I still like it, and I would turn it up really loud and sing along badly if it came on the radio!

I’m hoping they do some original songs soon!

It doesn’t bother me that they cover English songs… it bothers me that ALL their songs thus far are in a language they don’t really know. Hope they mix it up in the future 🙂

It’s so hard to criticize because obviously as americans speaking spanish, there are times when we sound dumb too.. but I can’t help it! She has so much talent but her missing syllables drive me nuts! What bothers me most is you’re right– they have taken Mexico by storm! They are EVERYWHERE! But I don’t think the mexicans catch that it sounds like she might have a serious speech problem (in english)… I tried having my boyfriend try to catch it, but he said he didn’t notice one bit. I wonder if in that “latin” Glee episode they had accents that sound equally as annoying!?

I saw that episode… and yes, yes they did have annoying accents, but that was part of the joke. 🙂 (Except Ricky Martin and Naya Rivera, of course.)

Wow she has a powerful voice for a 9(?) year old! I do catch a little accent, but it may be more of a cultural music difference… I know when I was in choir, we were taught to focus on the vowels and there are certain consonants that you sing (t’s d’s) and others you don’t draw out (r’s s’s). She tends to draw out the wrong syllables and not sing the ones you’re supposed to (in English anyway).
I know when I was learning French songs, it was hard because they pronounce the words differently in song than in speech.
Not sure if that’s how it is in Spanish.
Cute video though and talented kids for sure! And no, I haven’t heard of them in the US yet.

Very Talented kids, even if she can’t pronounce the words correctly. I think an Idol show could be in her future. I would like to hear her sing in Spanish tho.

They’re definitely incredibly talented and adorable, but I see what you mean about the accent. I can’ hardly understand a word she’s saying and I know the lyrics! I think they’d be more unique if they actually did original songs in Spanish…it’d make them less “Glee.”

The drummer is a little cutie! I’d say the accent is kind of annoying, but she is talented. no doubt.. I’d rather listen to her over Katy Perry, if that means anything!
    Never heard of them though!

Wow! I had never heard of this group. I thought they were extremely talented. I barely noticed the accent. I see a bright future for this group! Thanks for sharing.

This sounds eerily like Selena and her family. Hope it doesn’t end the same way 😦 What beautiful children!

They are adorable, and the accent is so cute–I love how she’s trying to sound out english but it doesn’t always work. super cute 🙂
